About Henry
Henry Grayson, Ph. D.
Dr. Grayson received his Ph.D. from Boston University and a Postdoctoral Certificate in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy from four years of postdoctoral training at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in New York City. He is the Founder and is Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies in New York, a postgraduate local and national psychotherapy training institute chartered by the Board of Regents in New York State. He also founded and is Director of the Institute for Spirituality, Science and Psychotherapy and is the Founder and past President of the Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy- a national membership organization. He was the Resident Psychologist on the Weight Watchers Magazine Show, hosted by Lynn Redgrave and aired 5 times a week nationally on Lifetime Cable. He will appear in the new movie, "The Truth", which is in the genre of "What the Bleep" and "The Secret", but one with many tools for practical application. It will be released in December, 2009.
Prior to graduate school in psychology, he took a graduate degree in theology at Emory University (essentially to please his family) and was a Protestant Minister for four years in Massachusetts in route to attending Boston University for his Ph.D. Even though he was constantly questioning old theological concepts portraying God as an "out there flat earth sky God," he was elected by the faculty as the "Outstanding Senior of the Year." Immediately following receipt of his Ph.D. at B.U.,he became an Assistant and then a tenured Associate Professor in the City University of New York for eight years while doing his postdoctoral fellowship, starting his practice, and then founding the National Institute for the Psychotherapies.
He is the co-author of three professional books: Three Psychotherapies: A Clinical Comparison, Short Term Approaches to Psychotherapy, and Changing Approaches to the Psychotherapies as well as numerous chapters and articles. More recently, he recorded a 9 ½ hour, 8 cd audio series for Sounds True, The New Physics of Love: The Power of Mind and Spirit in Relationships (2000). He is also the author of Mindful Loving: 10 Practices to Deepen Your Connections. (Gotham Books/The Penguin Group, 2003, which was featured in the April 2004 issue of Oprah’s Magazine, and has been translated into Korean and Russian. Two more books are in progress.
Dr. Grayson has studied Eastern and Western spiritual philosophies, Quantum Physics, neuropsychology (the new brain scan studies,) most of the major psychotherapies, and has created innovations on the new “power therapies” such as EMDR, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT, EFTA), Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT), and Thought Field Therapy (TFT), non-local mind studies and other new sciences and integrates them into the practice of his Synergetic Therapy in New York City and in Connecticut. He lectures and teaches widely, across the United States and abroad.
He is the host of the weekly radio show, "Mindful Living" on the Progressive Radio Network (PRNcomm.net). He is a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology, a Diplomate former Board Member and conference Chairman of the Association for Comprehensive Psychology, a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychotherapy, a member of the American Psychological Association, the New York State Psychological Association, the Connecticut Psychological Association, the Association for Transpersonal Psychology, the Institute for Noetic Sciences, The Society for the Scientific Study of Subtle Energies Medicine, EMDR International Association, a former Officer and Board Member of the Eastern Society for Group Psychotherapy. Dr. Grayson frequently serves as an expert guest on Gary Null's special PBS programs including: Overcoming Depression and Anxiety Naturally, Preventing & Reversing Cancer Naturally, Prescription for Disaster, Sexual Healing, The Law of Attraction, Love, and Overcoming the Dark Side. Henry has also participated in the film, The Truth, The Journey Within, a docudrama revealing and guiding each one of us on the journey within to the discovery and answers which unlocks the depths of our creation, our full inner potential, our purpose, wisdom, peace and truth, opening up a world of infinite possibilities.
Dr. Grayson's Clinical Practice
Dr. Grayson is a certified psychoanalyst, but has also studied and practiced most of the major psychotherapies, such as cognitive therapy, Gestalt therapy, hypnosis, transactional analysis, group therapy, couples therapy, EMDR, the other new "power therapies"(Emotional Freedom Techniques, Tapas Acupressure Technique and evolving Thought Field Therapy and other energy psychology methods some of which are his new innovations.) These are used for quickly and effectively clearing effects of traumas and other painful experiences, disturbing emotions, as well as negative core beliefs--that "software" we so often live by.) He as been strongly influenced by diverse spiritual systems and practices, new brain research, Neuropsychology, and insights from Quantum Physics and other new sciences, and has developed a powerful synergy, combining these into a unified system for spiritually and scientifically oriented psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, called Synergetic Therapy.
He practices in New York City as a Psychologist and in Connecticut as a psychoanalyst, energy healer, and pastoral counselor.
